Why Companies Need to Rethink the Digital Czar

“Over the last years, many companies appointed a ‘chief digital officer’ (CDO) as a solution to the avalanche of new technology coming their way. The objective was to consolidate all things digital into one corporate group, charged with making all digital decisions and, in many cases, running all digital businesses.

Today, however, the concept of a ‘centralized digital department’ is quickly becoming an anachronism. Traditional organizations that need to compete with newer, digitally native companies are losing the idea of the CDO as a digital czar and instead recasting the chief digital officer as a strategic partner to senior managers and change agent across an enterprise.”
