Should CIOs be rebranding themselves as CDOs?

“The job of CIO may be the ultimate aspiration for many in IT but for a growing number in the profession, there is an alluring alternative. ‘Irresistible’ is how the former CIO of Vodafone Mark Dearnley described the opportunity to become chief digital and information officer at UK tax authority HMRC.

His new role will put him in charge not only of a £500 million ($805m) annual IT budget, but also a £200 million ($322m) digital transformation program that will shift to online channels many of the interactions that HMRC has with the UK’s 45 million taxpayers and 4.8 million businesses.”
