5 Questions With Peter Schloten of BT

Peter Schloten is the GM of Digital Product at BT.

How do you define ‘digital strategy’?

I think you always need to see your digital strategy in the context of your business strategy. And that should start with your customer. A digital strategy cannot stand alone.

What kind of mobile device(s) do you have, and what are your three favorite apps?

I am an iPhone and iPad user, but still have not given up on my laptop for a number of tasks. Some of my favourite apps are Google Maps, Kindle and Flipboard.

What do you think of the emergence of the Chief Digital Officer role?

I think CDO roles are often created to give digital the focus that it needs given its disruptive potential. Where digital is already fully embedded in the organisation and the business the role of a CDO is often covered by other CxOs.

What advice do you have for aspiring digital professionals?

Always start with the customer, test, test, test, and constantly learn.

What three publications – in any format – do you read regularly?

1.) Financial Times
2.) Flipboard Technology
3.) Digital Marketing
